Re:Sea
A downloadable game
The bay used to be full of fish. Now it is full of what the land throws away.
You operate a claw machine from inside a work submarine on the seabed. Every
day the current brings a new delivery. Your job is to lift each piece, work
out what it actually is, and sort it — before your shift runs out.
WHAT YOU DO
Lower the claw and grab what you can. Bring it to the sorting desk. Read what
is on the surface for free, and pay to look deeper: rinse it, magnify the
label, swab the stain. Then choose a bin and commit
Only at the end of the day do you find out. Every mistake comes back with the
one thing you never checked.
WHAT MAKES IT AWKWARD
Information costs the same resource as everything else. Every drop of the
claw is inspection budget you no longer have. Work fast and you sort blind
work carefully and you never hit your quota.
Sorting rules stack, and they change from day to day. What belonged in one
bin yesterday may not belong there today. You cannot memorise your way
through this — you have to read.
Sort correctly and the material reaches the workshop, where it becomes parts
for three machines that clean the bay. Sort wrongly and it is not worth less.
It is worth nothing.
Five days. Three machines. Four endings.
CONTROLS
- A / D or arrow keys — move the claw
- Space, S or Down — drop
- Tab — switch between the claw and the sorting desk
